At 9:00am, Thursday, July 24th, 2003, this is the
Hamilton Naturalists' Club Birding Hotline Report. The
Hotline is normally revised on Thursday, unless an
unusual bird turns up in the Hamilton area.

No further reports have been received regarding the
AMERICAN AVOCET found at the Tollgate Ponds on
Hamilton Harbour this past Tuesday. If anyone has seen
this bird recently, please contact the Hotline.
Observers looking for the Avocet stopped briefly at
the Grimsby Sewage Loagoons and spotted a WHIMBREL, as
well as SORA RAIL, VIRGINIA RAIL, SHORT-BILLED
DOWITCHER, GREATER & LESSER YELLOWLEGS, STILT
SANDPIPER, SPOTTED SANDPIPER, LEAST SANDPIPER, CHIMNEY
SWIFT, and WILLOW FLYCATCHER.

Elsewhere, a trip to Courtcliff Park yielded PURPLE
FINCH, ROSE-BREASTED GROSBEAK, HOUSE WREN, SOLITARY
SANDPIPER, SPOTTED SANDPIPER, SEMI-PALMATED SANDPIPER,
KILLDEER, EASTERN MEADOWLARK, SAVANNAH SPARROW,
BLUE-GRAY GNATCATCHER, BLACK-BILLED CUCKOO,
CONNECTICUT WARBLER, YELLOW WARBLER, VESPER SPARROW,
INDIGO BUNTING, SCARLET TANAGER, GREAT BLUE HERON,
HAIRY WOODPECKER, DOWNY WOODPECKER, NORTHERN FLICKER,
GRAY CATBIRD, EASTERN KINGBIRD, GREAT-CRESTED
FLYCATHCER, and EASTERN WOOD PEWEE.
