Hello Ontbirders
Numbers of shorebirds along the Ottawa River are still low due to
high water conditions. On July 24 I observed 4 adult Semipalmated
Plover, 4 adult Semipalmated Sandpiper along with 1 adult Caspian Tern
and 2 adult Bonaparte's Gull on a small exposed sandbar at the east end
of Andrew Haydon Park. Nearby, 3 male Greater Scaup and a breeding
plumage Common Loon were present.
Today July 26th the water levels were lower at Andrew Haydon Park
but only 1 adult Greater Yellowlegs, 2 adult Lesser Yellowlegs and an
adult Ruddy Turnstone were observed. At Shirleys Bay, with water levels
lower, 11 adult Lesser Yellowlegs, 1 adult Short-billed Dowithcher and
32 Spotted Sandpiper (adults and juv's) were sighted.
The Red-headed Woodpeckers at Constance Bay are now fledged and 2
juv's and 3 adults were observed today feeding in the old burn site.

                                                        good birding
                                                        Bruce
