Yesterday was an even better day than Friday in the Bartley Smith Greenway. The birds were very vocal, it was almost like Spring. Birds were numerous (I stood in one spot for 90 minutes while flocks foraged around me) and some more species showed up in addition to most of the same species reported then: White-breasted Nuthatch Rusty Blackbird Bay-breasted and Blackburnian Warblers Phoebe, plus an Empidonax Flycatcher, Great Blue and Black-crowned Night Herons
I had two Purple Finches at my feeders. A female Pheasant flushed on Sunday; this was the result of a man training a dog to flush game birds. This morning was quite tame by comparison, but a single Junco and two Brown Creepers showed up, right on schedule. The Bartley Smith Greenway runs from Steeles Avenue (the northern boundary of Toronto) to Langstaff Road, on the west side of Dufferin Street. All of the above birds were seen between the section from Glen Shields Avenue, two lights north of Steeles, to the highway 407 bridge. Ian Cannell Concord, Ontario.
