PINE SISKINS arrived last Sunday and have increased in number daily to a
small flock of about 25. PURPLE FINCHES joined the TUFTED TITMOUSE (black
forehead) and the male RED-BELLIED WOODPECKER and the singing CAROLINA
WRENS at Taylor Woods a private property located at 1016 Wilson Ave.,
Kitchener close to Homer Watson Park. This property is accessed by a
private drive between the Heroux-Devtek plant and the Bell Depot yard. It
overlooks the Grand River.
Other species visiting the feeder on a very regular basis are: BLUE JAYS,
NORTHERN CARDINALS, BLACK CAPPED CHICKADEES, TREE SPARROWS, AMERICAN
GOLDFINCH, SLATE COLOURED JUNCOS, HAIRY and DOWNY WOODPECKERS,
WHITE-BREASTED and RED-BREASTED NUTHATCHES, HOUSE FINCH, MOURNING DOVE and
occasionally a perching RED TAIL HAWK.
The sheltered situation, the number and variety of feeders filled with black
sunflower and niger seeds contribute to the success of this feeding station.
Note, we don't get HOUSE SPARROWS or EUROPEAN STARLINGS.
Birders are welcome.
