I had an excellent view of a Black Vulture perched and in flight at Pt. Petre in Prince Edward County on Monday, April 19th. There were strong west/south--west winds. I had a good opportunity to see its short tail when perched and its grey head. In flight I was able to see the distinctive under-wing pattern. A number of us saw another Black Vulture in May of 2002 at Prince Edward Point which is East of Pt. Petre.
Other highlights birding Prince Edward County today were: pied-billed grebe, horned grebe, greater yellowlegs, 100's of bonaparte's gulls; 11 caspian terns; blue-headed vireo, cliff swallow, blue-gray gnatcatcher, yellow-rumped, pine and black throated green warblers; flock of 6 purple finches; and field, chipping, swamp, fox, and white-throated sparrows. Directions: Take the 401 to the hwy. #62 exit in Belleville. Follow 62 over the Bridge to Prince Edward County and stay on 62 which turns into 33 at Bloomfield. Continue on #33 to Picton and then take 10 to South of Cherry Valley and turn on #24 which is the Pt. Petre Rd. Lloyd Paul [EMAIL PROTECTED]
