At 5:00 p.m. on Thursday June 17, 2004 this is the Hamilton Naturalists Club Birding Report:
American Bittern Common Moorhen Northern Harrier Pileated Woodpecker Yellow-billed Cuckoo Black-billed Cuckoo Alder Flycatcher Marsh Wren House Wren Veery Eastern Bluebird Brown Thrasher Yellow Warbler Blue-winged Warbler Mourning Warbler Northern Waterthrush Rose-breasted Grosbeak Eastern Towhee White-throated Sparrow Dark-eyed Junco Bobolink Eastern Meadowlark Another quiet week on the home front. This weeks most bizarre sighting was a Dark-eyed Junco coming into a feeder in central Burlington last Friday. This and a late Brown Thrasher made for good birds for a yard list. Beverly Swamp located in and about the area of 8th concession and Westover Road to Valens Road was productive this week with birds such as Northern Harrier, Alder Flycatcher, Veery, Blue-winged Warbler, Mourning Warbler, Northern Waterthrush, Eastern Towhee and White-throated Sparrow giving a northern flavour to this Flamborough location. Up in this area American Bittern, Common Moorhen and Marsh Wrens were seen and heard from the marsh/swamp located on Safari Road just past Valens Road near Hyde Tract. A report from Hopkins Tract off of York Road gave us Eastern Bluebirds, House Wren, Yellow Warbler, Bobolink, Rose-breasted Grosbeak and Eastern Meadowlark. Also here was the flyover of a Pileated Woodpecker. Cuckoos continue to be seen in various locations. A Yellow-billed Cuckoo was reported from Rattray Marsh in Mississauga. Black-billed Cuckoos were reported from a yard in Carlisle. Thanks for your continued sightings, have a great week. Good birding, Cheryl Edgecombe HNC Hotline 905-381-0329
