A quick outing to the Long Point area yesterday (Wednesday, June 23), by Jay
Peterson and yours truly, provided some pleasant birding, although the
mosquitos were numerous on the forest trails.
Highlights, among the 73 species observed, included both a male and a female
Prairie Warbler (separate sightings, several hundred meters apart), and a
Brewster's and a Blue-Winged Warbler, (both at the same location), plus
several other more common species of warbler. We saw several Black-billed
Cuckoos and enjoyed the beauty of Scarlet Tanagers, Rose-breasted Grosbeaks
and Indigo Buntings.
At Big Creek, there were a couple of Black Terns.
"Old Cut" was pretty quiet, except for the hum of mosquitos, but a Carolina
Wren was singing mightily there.

Most of the birds seen were on the 6th Concession, north of Long Point, or
on the trails that lead off from that road.
