The American White Pelican continues to be present at Cootes Paradise. I viewed the bird from Princess Point in Hamilton today at about 1:00 p.m.. The bird was sitting on the opposite shore to Princess Point on a large island known as Rat Island just off the RBG property. A scope was useful for viewing the bird.
Directions to Princess Point QEW to Hwy 403 Hamilton. Exit at Main Street West and go west on Main to Macklin St. South. Turn Right on Macklin and follow this all the way into the park area. (If you miss Macklin, Longwood also goes down to the point, Longwood is further west of Macklin) Enter the park and go past the first small parking area and into the larger parking lot further in. I parked at the furthest end of this lot just before the road turns back up, walked up the hill and over to an opening in the trees to look across at the island. Cheers, Cheryl Edgecombe
