Hi Everyone Yesterday, September 3, 2004 there were 6 Great Egrets present at Shirley's Bay in the morning. The shorebird numbers were low but 4 Stilt Sandpiper and 1 White-rumped Sandpiper were present. The lower shorebird numbers maybe due to the number of raptors in the area including 1 juv. Peregrine, 3 juv. Merlin , 1 Cooper's Hawk and 2 Northern Harrier. One Merlin was observed eating a Semipalmated Sandpiper. Along the east side of the dyke there were 14 Lesser Scaup, 1 Red-necked Grebe and 1 Common Goldeneye. The Red-headed Woodpecker family ( 2 ad., 3 juv.) was still present at the old burn site at Constance Bay. There were easy to see fly catching over the site.
