1. This issue has several announcements: Don Barnett Retires, New OFO Board
Members, Future OFO Field Trips, 2004 OFO Awards, Ontario Shorebird
Conservation Plan, and 2005 Annual Convention and Banquet.
2. 2005 OFO Annual Convention: Please read carefully. It was annouced at
this year's convention in Oakville that next year's convention would be on
Thanksgiving weekend. Because of feedback from members, the Board of
Directors changed the dates to Saturday and Sunday, 10 and 11 September
2005 at Point Pelee.
ENCLOSURES
1. The Nature Conservancy of Canada: Enclosed with this issue are a flyer
and pledge form about the 1600 acre Windmill Ranch on the Carden Alvar.
Please support this acquisition that protects habitat for Loggerhead
Shrikes. The ranch also includes most of the Sedge Wren Marsh (a
provincially significant wetland) on the west side of Wylie Road, which is
important habitat for Yellow Rails.
2. 2005 OFO Field Trips: Also enclosed with this issue is a handy sheet
with a complete list of all the field trips in 2005. This includes dates,
locations, names of leaders, target birds, details for each trip, and a
phone number and email address for additional information.
3. Membership Renewal: Eleanor Beagan, Membership Secretary, has enclosed a
renewal form and return envelope for your 2005 OFO membership. Please renew
early to make the Membership Secretary's work easier. For membership
