The usual fall waterfowl are being observed in the area - Redhead, Scoters, Long-tailed Ducks, Common and Red-throated Loons, Horned and Red-necked Grebes, Goldeneye, Bufflehead, all three Mergansers, etc. Check the Owen Sound harbour, the shore road between Dyer's Bay and Cabot Head, and the Lake Huron shoreline.
A few Bonaparte's gulls are still hanging around the Wiarton area. Great Black-backed gulls can be observed between the Southampton harbour and Chantry Island. No white-winged gulls reported yet. There have been two Trumpeter Swans on the river by the Boat Lake bridge - both tagged males. Sir Isaac (#543) was released at Isaac Lake in 2002 and spent the summer there again this year. His new friend (#767) was released near Flesherton in 2001 according to Harry Lumsden's records. The bridge in on Bruce Road 13 between Oliphant and Wiarton. There was a Townsend's Solitaire at Cabot Head yesterday. Possibly the same one reported a few weeks ago by Stef Menu. Cabot Head is at the northeast tip of the Bruce Peninsula. An immature Golden Eagle was observed being harassed by a couple of crows on Bruce Road 13 just south of Sauble Beach.
