On Thursday, December 2, 2004 I saw 2 Great Grey Owls east of Sault Ste Marie
on Highway 17. The first was 500 metres west of Basswood Lake Road in the
Village of Sowerby and the second was sitting on top of the "Pedestrian
Crossing" sign in the Village of Mississauga on the south side of the street
across from the Hydro One office. Meetings I had with municipal employees along
the North Shore of Lake Huron on Wednesday & Thursday indicated a high level of
interest among locals in these birds - and reports from them of other Great
Greys in the area including on St. Joseph Island and in the farm areas south of
the villages of Massey and Webbwood.

Another highlight was 3 Sharp-tailed Grouse flushed from a field by a diving
juvenile Rough-legged Hawk in pursuit of an unidentified rodent. Lucky for me,
not so lucky for the rodent.

Hi everyone,
For those who are interested the EUGO is still here.
He spends most of his time on the south side Nyger Feeders.
That make 16 days now.

Also the Great Gray Owl can still be found at the 121 & 122 marker on HWY
560.

Hundreds of Snow Buntings and Pine Grosbeaks are everywhere along HWY 560
and 65
Many are being killed by the cars.

Good birding all,
Gert Trudel
Gowganda
