It was brought to my attention that i had failed to give directions to T.T.P. (Tommy Tompson Park) or Leslie Street Split. Same place different name. So if you care to go there looking for the Owls mentioned earlier then here is how I get there from where I am located, Drive south down the 427 to the Q.E.W Take the Q.E.W east all the way through to Gardiner and then carry on the Gardiner till it ends. Gardiner ends by turning into Lakeshore Drive. Take Lakeshore to the second set of traffic lights which is Leslie Street. Turn right onto Leslie Street and drive to the end, I park outside the gates as they do get locked on time and any cars inside in the parking lot will get locked inside (I have seen this happen before). Tommy Tompson Park is a fairly large park so expect to do abit of walking. If you are coming in from the east end of Toronto then I am sorry but I do not know how best to get to this location from that end of town. Hello Ontbirders After striking out twice in the last 2 weeks looking for Short-eared Owls near Newcastle, I decided to head for the Fisherville Raptor Preserve. This time I was successful. Arriving at about 2pm I easily found 7 SHORT-EARED OWLS on the Haldimand 6th concession between Regional Rds 53 and 12. I was able to see and photograph the owls without getting out of my car. When I returned at 4:45 the birds were all still in the same roosts. I also checked out the Nanticoke Power Plant (south of CTY Rd 3 at Nanticoke). From the road which runs south of #3 on the east side of the power plant (sorry I don't recall the name) I had 4 sightings of immature BALD EAGLES in flight (at least 2 individulas). Also on the same road I pulled off at a spot where there is beach access and looked back west to the power plant. In the late afternoon sun the many ducks were unidentifiable, but I did make out the hunched silhouttes of several GREAT BLUE HERONS on the beach. Heading out I found 6 immature BALD EAGLES roosting at the edge of a wood lot on the south side of #3 just east of the power plant. Directions: Haldimand County is south of Hamilton. From Hamilton take Hwy 6 south to Hagersville. Go SE on 20 then S on 53 and E on the 6th concession. For Nanticoke follow 53 or 12 south to #3 then go west to Nanticoke. The latter was seen many times at various positions along Hall's Rd. and along both pathways. There is a second Barred Owl, occasionally found within the Lynde Shores bird-feeder trail. One never knows where a GGO may show, but the most likely choice is along Lakeridge Rd., 1 block west of Hall's Rd. I do not believe anyone saw the Pileated today. A wonderfully-coloured 1.5 yr.-old male N Harrier was found dead on a driveway below porch window-panes during the morning. The bird had been a favoured sighting for several months. Positive cause of death will be made, and we hope he will be a display bird eventually. A Great Horned Owl was also seen in a distant tree at the north end of the Cranberry Marsh wetland. Hall's Rd. and Lakeridge Rd. run south from Victoria St. in southwest Whitby. Doug Lockrey, Whitby -- No virus found in this outgoing message. Checked by AVG Anti-Virus.
