This morning, August 17, an adult peregrine falcon spent time on both
the Jean Talon and Coats buildings of the Tunney's Pasture Government
complex. The death of the locally resident female peregrine, nicknamed
Horizon, has been well publicized. It seems likely that this morning's
bird was the resident male, known as Connor, although I am not familiar
enough with the individual bird to say with any certainty. Over the
years, one (occasionally two) peregrine(s) has been a common and
spectacular sight around the Coats building in the non-breeding season,
but this year (even before Horizon's death) I've had only two or three
sightings. With Horizon gone, the future looks bleak for peregrine
encounters around here, so this morning's visit was much appreciated.

The Coats building at Tunney's Pasture is the tall tower located between
Parkdale and Holland Aves just north of Scott St. The Jean Talon
building is two buildings north from the Coats.

There is a fairly good selection of shorebirds this morning at the
Amherstview Sewage Lagoons. Ten species altogether including 3 BAIRD'S
SANDPIPERS and 3 STILT SANDPIPERS. The majority of shorebirds are in
juvenile plumage. A report from Amherst Island includes BAIRD'S SANDPIPER,
SANDERLING and BLACK-BELLIED PLOVER. For the Ode collectors, there are a
few Wandering Gliders around the lagoons.

Good Birding
