When the winds are slight many of the raptors migrating from the east tend to take the Iroquois Shoreline route, 10 km. north of Cranberry. Today, Sep. 10, was no exception--3 Turkey Vulture, 1 Osprey, 3 N.Harrier, 12 Sharp-shinned, 1 Red-tailed, 1 Kestrel and 1 Merlin over 5 hours of viewing. After 21 days of observing we have listed 372 migrating raptors.
However the many visitors thoroughly enjoyed the Monarchs (at least 300) and Hummingbirds (at least 150). On the wetland were 3 Great Egrets, several Marsh Wrens. Along the path were 4 species of warblers, incl. 1 Black-throated Green, Red-breasted Nuthatch. Hall's Rd. is 1 block east of Lakeridge Rd., off Victoria St. in southwest Whitby.
