Below I have revised and recorded the year end totals, raptors, hours, average per
hour and number of observation days.During my review I found I had made some
errors when adding day totals to month and year totals. The differance was 266

The year started out very well with really good numbers and just the right
winds for our site, but at the mid-point our luck ran out and the counts dropped
off dramaticlly. We had a very low Turkey Vulture count as we generally get well
over 1,200 & our G/Eagle count was short atleast 20 to 25 for the year! Red
Tails again this year were down by some 600 birds!! I guess I should be happy
we did get a very good Broad Wing push.I would like to say Thank You to the
many first timers to our site and hope you plan to join us again next year!! A
Special thanks goes out to Elenor&Eilean Began for their help and gift of a
calculator to keep at our site! From Martin Bence,Graham Nord and myself have a
Happy Holiday & a Healthy New Year!!

Several interesting birds for winter listers in the Whitby area today.
A Pine Warbler visited a feeder in Thickson's Woods. There was a
Red-throated Loon off the beach at Cranberry Marsh at the foot of
Hall's Rd. Also, Brown Creeper, Fox, Swamp, White-throated & Song
sparrows in that area, + Wood Duck & Coot.
Two Killdeer were on Watson Creek near the bridge in Whitby
Harbour (foot of Brock). Also, 2 male Pintails, a Great Blue Heron and
   a Kingfisher.

Had about 14-15 people out for a nature photography shoot this morning in
the Torbolton Forest adjacent to Bruce Diablio's Red Headed Woodpeckers.
Over the period of about two hours, small groups of 1-2 people broke off and
went in search of the woodpeckers. Everyone came back having seen at least
one. My "group" of two spotted three red-headed and one downy.

They are not the easiest bird to photograph, but if one of my shots is any
good I will send it to OFO Bird Photos

None of us had seen one before so we are very impressed. Thanks Bruce for
the good tips !

One person reported the back side of an owl before it quickly flew away. No
one is a good birder so no ID on the owl.

Directions to old burn site(compliments of Bruce DiLabio): From 417 in
Ottawa exit at Eagelson/March and go North on March Rd. Turn right onto
Dunrobin Rd and travel past Woodlawn. Turn right onto Constance Bay rd. Turn
left onto Allbirch then left onto Bayview. Make a right off of Bayview onto
Ritchie. Very soon there will be a T intersection (Whistler AVe) - turn left
onto the sandy road. Follow this road 0.3km to a gate on the right across
from a relatively open area. Trail is on left side of road opposite gate.
Limited parking

Additional directions from today:

Park at the gate, but walk another 100 yards along the road and turn left on
the next trail towards the houses on Bayview, walk about 75 yards towards
the houses, watching the trees as you go.
