Hi Ontbirders,

The Great Egret was seen this morning (Sunday) around 09h.40 feeding on the
Rideau River near the playgrounds off River Road (opposite McArthur). From
there it flew southwards along the river & was found again around 09h.50
feeding just just south of the Cummings Bridge.

Directions: exit from the 417 to the Vanier Parkway. Travel northwards as
far as McArthur. Turn left (west) off the Vanier Parkway & go to River Road.
There is a parking lot just opposite. The bike path runs for several
kilometres south towards Billings Bridge.

Hi All,

A morning outing to Second Marsh resulted in at least 8 Little Gulls
with 400+ Bonaparte's Gulls, my first 4 Common Terns of the year, also
here were a few Ruddy Ducks, Northern Shovelers and 1 Greater
Yellowlegs, in the very cold east winds.

I also stopped in at Thickson's Woods, where, just inside the gate at
the north side I watched a quiet LEAST FLYCATCHER for about 5 minutes
(also, independently seen and photographed by Gord Gallant), this seemed
quite early for this species in the GTA, early dates showing as April
25th. Also at Thickson's were many Winter Wrens, Yellow-rumped
Warblers, a couple of Pine Warblers (both species singing), a few
Eastern Towhees, and a large flock (100+) of mixed swallows along
Thickson's at the west side of the woods, including Northern
Rough-winged, Barn, Tree and a couple of Bank Swallows.

Good birding,
Frank Pinilla
Thornhill, ON

DIRECTIONS:
Second Marsh - If driving east from Toronto on Hwy 401 then exit at
Farewell Street (Exit 419) and drive south to Colonel Sam Drive, turn
left, east on Colonel Sam Drive and drive to the General Motors Head
Office parking lot. Park at the southwest corner of the lot and follow
the grassy trail from that corner to the viewing tower.
The trail from the tower runs north into the woods to another viewing
tower with another view of the marsh and of the surrounding woods and
wet area.=20

Thickson's Woods - If driving east from Toronto on Hwy 401 then exit at
Thickson Road (Exit 412) and turn right (south). Drive along Thickson
Road across Victoria Street E. and Wentworth Street W. At the next
street (road) on your left past Wentworth Street turn left onto this
road and you are there. Drive straight down the road and turn around,
drive back and park on your right. (DO NOT BLOCK THE ROAD AND BE SURE TO
LOCK YOUR AUTO).
The entrance (narrow) is on the south side of the road.
