There was the occasional sprinkle in the late morning and afternoon. Winds were moderate to fairly strong from the south. Raptor Observations: As might be expected on a day dominated by clouds, the migration was light albeit somewhat steady but dying off quickly in the mid afternoon. The flight was mostly of Sharpies with very little else making the passage today. Highlighting the day, though, was the two Merlins recorded, one of which we watched for about an hour as it sat on a perch within site of the hawk watch and devoured its prey (best guess was a House Finch). Altogether for the day, 113 birds of 8 species were observed. Non-raptor Observations: Large numbers of Northern Rough-winged Swallows were seen migrating today along with lesser numbers of Tree and Barn Swallows and Chimney Swifts. Several Purple Martins were also noted. ======================================================================== Report submitted by Calvin Brennan ([EMAIL PROTECTED]) SMRR- Lake Erie Metropark information may be found at: http://www.smrr.net/
