Weather:
Today was sunny for the most part with substantial amounts of cumulous
developing in the afternoon. The winds were light from the west-southwest
early becoming moderate out of the west as the day went on.

Raptor Observations:
The count started slowly but picked up quickly in mid morning when the wind
kicked up a bit. Most of the activity was in the form of mixed Broad-wing
and vulture kettles, with the latter group finally taking over as the
dominate species. The TVs in fact moved steadily throughout the remainder
of the day and into the early evening and included 1,200 birds in the
second to last hour of the count. Other highlights of the day included the
seasonÂ’s fourth SwainsonÂ’s Hawk, a dark morph and the second Golden Eagle
of the fall.

Non-raptor Observations:
Non-raptor highlights included two Common Nighthawks, three Sandhill Cranes
and a first-winter Lesser Black-backed Gull. A Northern Water-snake
appeared in the midst of all the watchers today and nobody knows how it
came to be among us without anyone noticing it.
