Another exciting week began in the park when the Chuck-Will's-Widow was refound south of the tip washrooms along the boardwalk trail. As well in the nearby area were many species of warblers including Redstart, Wilson's and Mourning. Just north of the tip transit loop along the road the Eastern Screech-Owl continues to offer observers excellent views.
The Woodland Nature Trail also produced many species including Louisiana Waterthrush near post 16, a Mourning Warbler near post 8, and a Sedge Wren near post 4. Along the road to the Visitor Centre just north of the tram loop, an Acadian Flycatcher was reported. On DeLaurier Trail, there was a Golden-winged Warbler to the north of the parking lot. There is still a variety of shorebirds at Hillman's Shorebird habitat, including Golden and Black-bellied Plover, yellowlegs, dowitcher, etc. Someone also reported a Least Bittern. Marie X-BeenThere: [email protected] X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.1 Precedence: list X-List-Received-Date: Mon, 14 May 2007 16:25:48 -0000 Did my Baillie Birdathon around the Sault yesterday, managing to find 121 species. The highlight was a Northern Mockingbird found behind OFRI at 10:30 a.m. Directions: Sault Ste. Marie is located 3 1/2 hours west of Sudbury, on Highway 17. OFRI is at 1235 Queen St.E. To get there, take a left on Elizabeth St., first street on the left after Hwy. 17 merges with Wellington St.E. Drive all the way down, to Queen, then go across the road, and take a left into the parking lot. Drive to the back corner, and if it is still around it will be there.
