THE OFNC BIRD STATUS LINE @ 11:00 pm, MONDAY SEPT. 24, 2007

This is Chris Lewis reporting.

Not much excitement on the local birding scene this week, but who could
complain about the beautiful weather? The most interesting reports were of
2 SANDHILL CRANES at Shirley's Bay on the evening of Sept. 20th, 3 Snow Geese
and a blue-morph Snow Goose at Andrew Haydon Park on the 23rd, several
overnight movements of hundreds of Swainson's Thrushes from the 17th to
the 21st, with a few Veerys and GRAY-CHEEKED THRUSHes heard among them,
several American Pipits in various locations, and an influx of White-throated
and White-crowned Sparrows also during the past week.

Shorebirds reported since the 17th included up to 5 Black-bellied and 2
American Golden Plovers on the mud-flats along the Ottawa River between
the north end of Scrivens St. and the east end of Andrew Haydon Park. On
the 22nd, 14 American Golden Plovers were reported from the Plaisance
area on the Quebec side, along with a GREAT EGRET and a Peregrine Falcon.
The Almonte sewage lagoons west of Ottawa hosted several "Yellowlegs
spp." on the 21st, and at the Richmond Conservation Area off Eagleson
Rd. on the 23rd there were (quote from observer) "several Pectoral
Sandpipers along with the commoner species of sandpipers and plovers". A
Stilt Sandpiper was seen at the Richmond site on the 22nd but not the 23rd.

Thank you - Good Birding!
