Hi everyone,

Today, September 30, 2007, we birded a number of sites in Renfrew County. During an early morning visit to Westmeath Provincial Park along the Ottawa River, we checked large patches of vegetation in a 2 kilometer stretch of shoreline and found 6 Nelson's Sharp-tailed Sparrows. Despite their skulking behaviour, pishing encouraged several out for excellent views.

With low water levels, there were extensive mud flats where we found one Black-bellied Plover, 6 American Golden-Plover, one Ruddy Turnstone and 3 Dunlin along with 60 American Pipits, 14 Horned Larks and one Lapland Longspur. An immature Bald Eagle was also observed.

At Lake Dore waterbird numbers are beginning to increase. Species included 47 Common Loon, 31 Horned Grebe, 5 Red-necked Grebe and 105 Bonaparte's Gull.

Good birding, Bruce
