After seeking the bird in Whitby, Ajax, Pickering and Scarborough yesterday and around the Hamilton area for a few hours this morning, I (finally) observed the pelican in Hamilton from 12:30 to 1:00pm off Princess Point today. It was feeding actively and moving around a lot with 100's of Double-crested Cormorants.
Directions: There may be an easier way to get to Princess Point but here's how an out-of-towner did it. Feel free to modify the directions. From Cheryl's earlier location before the high level bridge (Going west along Plains Road in Burlington which turns into York Blvd as you enter Hamilton, there is a pull off on York Blvd. on the east side just before the high level bridge. If you park here, there is a parkette with a lookout into Cootes Paradise and the Dundas Marsh. The bird flew around a bit and then tucked in here on the north side of Rat Island. A scope is extremely helpful. Follow York Blvd to Dundurn Street N. Turn right on Dundurn to King Street W. Turn right on King and go over the 403 bridge. Continue to Longwood Street N (traffic lights). Go right on Longwood for a few blocks (6?) until you reach the parking area. Park to the North and walk North up the path until you reach a lookout on the water. The pelican was within a few hundred feet when I got there but moved to the far shore and halfway back over the next half hour.
