Thanks you all. Many photographers flexed their arms holding big lens skywards tracking flocks of Blue Jays, and speedy Sharpies. And of course perched and fishing Osprey. Weather: Fog/Hazy started the day and cleared from the Tower area in a few hours but stayed at the horizon for some time. Clouds were abundant and with the mixed fog/hazy at the horizons. 70% cloud cover became 60% 30 and finally 2% cover.Temperature ranged 21.9 C to a high of 27.1 at 11-12 EST and ended at 25.7 an hour later. Wind was calm to a high of 9 km/hr. Early the wind was calm and the birds near the shore or 200 yards north. With increased winds later in the day the birds moved north and many were at the limit of binoculars. The breeze felt good on this unseasonably hot day but the birds went northward with it. Raptor Observations: Not much of a flight until 9-10 am EST when birds began to move in fair numbers and continued until 1 pm EST when the numbers were less than a trickle and we closed for the day. An Osprey perched on south tree east of hunt club. It fished several times. It had a broken or twisted right primary. It had been seen the day before. Non-raptor Observations: Blue Jay, Red-winged Blackbirds, Starlings were early morning migrants. The day was dotted with Am Goldfinches, Cedar Waxwings, Am Pipits, Am Robins, and Tree Swallows. Starlings were 4,000 total. Red-wings 1.500 total. Blue Jays '29,700'. About 24 Monarch Butterflies passed the Tower. Few dragonflys. Predictions: Much the same. It has been predicted that next Friday will be a good day. ======================================================================== Report submitted by Bob Pettit ([EMAIL PROTECTED]) Holiday Beach Migration Observatory information may be found at: http://hbmo.org/ _______________________________________________ ONTBIRDS is presented by the Ontario Field Ornithologists - the provincial birding organization.
