Skies were more or less completely overcast by midday with only a few brief sunny breaks thereafter. Light rain was falling by days end. Winds were moderate to fairly strong from the west throughout the day. Raptor Observations: While todays passage was a bit lighter overall than the flight yesterday the movement was perhaps steadier throughout even with the cloud cover in the afternoon. The TV groups were quite impressive although at times seemed to make no head way in the substantial west wind with the same kettles on occasion in view for upwards of an hour, quartering to and fro to gain the best advantage in the wind. The Buteo flight was less than the day previous but offered some great looks at several adult Red-shouldered Hawks, one of my personal favorites. Non-raptor Observations: Large numbers of Tree Swallows with lesser numbers of Northern Rough-winged Swallows were moving in response to the front today. An increase in waterfowl numbers has been noted lately particular small to medium-sized skeins of Canada Geese. A group of 5 Common Loons was another noteworthy sighting today. ======================================================================== Report submitted by Calvin Brennan ([EMAIL PROTECTED]) SMRR- Lake Erie Metropark information may be found at: http://www.smrr.net/ _______________________________________________ ONTBIRDS is presented by the Ontario Field Ornithologists - the provincial birding organization.
