Dear Fellow Birders, A quick visit to Long Point yesterday yielded 160 Sandhill Cranes flying out from their roost where Big Creek empties out into the Inner Bay. The cranes then scattered to the surrounding fields where getting an accurate count is much more difficult but are much easier to observe. Directions: Exit the 401 near Woodstock at Hwy 59 and follow this south to Lake Erie. When you reach Lakeshore Rd you can turn right here and check the fields along here as they often have cranes. To find the roost continue on Hwy 59 until you hit the bridge over Big Creek. You can park here and if you are present at sunrise or starting an hour before sunset you can see the cranes leaving/arriving at the roost.
