This morning Ian Cannell and I among other places visited the sod farms
northeast of Beeton.

The first place we stopped was on 9th Line just west of Sideroad 15 and here
we got lucky ( so to speak ). We found 2 Buff-breasted sandpipers, 2
Black-bellied Plovers, 3 Pectoral Sandpipers and 17 Killdeer. While we stood
beside the road I heard the calls of several Golden Plovers and almost right
away a flock of 72 came in low from behind us. So low I could hear the wing
beats. As they passed over they split into 2 flocks. One flock went north
towards 10th Line and the other one disappeared to the southwest. Not bad for a
first stop.

We checked several more sod farms on 9th and 10th Lines and only came up with
1 more Black-bellied Plover and some more Killdeer, a N. Harrier and a
Broad-winged Hawk. Almost all of the other sod farms had one to several pieces
of machinery working the sod so if going I suggest that an early arrival may be
the best. We didn't get there until after 11am.

Directions:-

Beeton is north of Bolton. Exit Hwy 400 at Exit 64 ( Bradford ) and drive west
on Regional Rd 88 ( 7th Line ) through Bond Head to Sideroad 15. Turn right (
north ) here and drive up to 9th Line.
