In the early afternoon several birders from the "other side of TO" reported
good birding in Lynde Shores woodlot(east of Hall's Rd. along Victoria
St.)--among the warblers they saw were --blackburnian, Cape May,
ORANGE-CROWNED, black-throated green, black-throated blue, Nashville,
yellow-rumped, c.yellowthroat, BAY-BREASTED.
With medium-strong WNW winds and a rising Barometric pressure AND a TUV of
400ft./min.(excellent thermals) we expected quite a show at the Cranberry Marsh
platform. It is rare that we would have 3 consecutive "good" days, and, indeed,
it took a while to see great kettling of Turkey Vultures on the thermals. In
the first we had 2 low-flying BALD EAGLES approach us, then deciding to perch
at opposite ends of the wetland--later both took flight westward again. We
ended up with a total of 4 BALD EAGLES (none adults), giving us a near-record
to date--53 (record is 57).
Many raptors were "on high", taking advantage of the thermals. A MALE NORTHERN
HARRIER was most enjoyable to watch.
