Visitors:
Many visitors over the course of the day from various locations in
Michigan, Essex County and a contingent from the Syndenham Field
Naturalists Club.
Weather:
A nice fall day, with clear skies, light mostly northerly winds, with some
variability late in the day, and temperatures from 5.4 - 19°C.
Raptor Observations:
A good mix with 12 species recorded and large kettles of Turkey Vultures.
Non-raptor Observations:
There was a constant stream of Blue Jays migrating all day. Random minute
counts indicated a range of 120 - 130 birds per minute for a range of
68,000 - 74,000 individual Jays passing over the tower over the course of
the count day, and they were still streaming over when I closed up the Hawk
Count for the day.
Predictions:
Cloudy skies. High 16°C, humidity 50%,Winds SE at 8 to 16 km/h.
