Weather:
The early part of the day today was dominated by heavy overcast along with
a bit of drizzle and light rain. Conditions improved slowly, first some
thinning of the cloud cover and a general brightening and then very gradual
breakup of the clouds. Winds were moderate from the east, although upper
level winds appeared to be west-northwest.



Raptor Observations:
The day was largely a vulture event with strong movement of this species
from mid morning until the end of the day. Much of the early activity was
over the lake as the birds crossed south of the count area (thus the notion
that upper level winds were contrary to the surface winds) but as
conditions improved in the afternoon, there were large groups going right
overhead. It was among one of these late day groups that the bird of the
day was noted, a Black Vulture, only the second recorded during the history
of the count.
