Hello ONTBirders: At the Fletcher Wildlife Garden, my wife and I discovered approximately 30 WHITE-WINGED CROSSBILLS at the tall pines near the feeder at the ash woodlot. The crossbills were feasting on the abundant cones surrounding the feeder. Seven HOUSE FINCHES, a pair of NORTHERN CARDINALS, and singles of DARK-EYED JUNCO (slate-coloured) and AMERICAN GOLDFINCH were present at the feeder. To the northeast to the woodlot, we also discovered five PINE GROSBEAKS which made a brief appearance before flying off towards the Arboretum. Before leaving, we checked the traditional crab apple trees at the Arboretum for the pine grosbeaks, but none were present at that time. Pat DIRECTIONS: The Fletcher Wildlife Garden is located off of Prince of Wales Drive, across from the Experimental Farm and the Museum of Agriculture. _________________________________________________________________
