Hello Ontario Birders and Happy New Year. It has been a couple weeks since I
updated you on the 2008/09 Ontario Winter List, and with CBC season coming to a
close I thought it timely to send an update.

The Ontario Winter List is now at 191 species with the addition of Greater
White-fronted Goose, Eared Grebe, Spruce Grouse, Pine Warbler, Brewer's
Blackbird and Marsh Wren since the last report. That is 98% of the species seen
in 2007/08, the first semi-official Ontario Winter List.

About the only regularly expected species not seen (or not reported) so far is
Three-toed Woodpecker. We have not heard from the Chatham-Kent CBC to see if
they had Barn Owl again this year, which would give us a clean sweep on Owl
species. So, keep your eyes and ears out for species not seen on an annual
basis, such as the suspected Indigo Bunted reported the other day from
Thickson's Woods. Remember to check out the list at the following URL:
http://tinyurl.com/onwinter and report any errors, omissions, or new species
for the list to me at the e-mail address below.

Good Birding.
