Hi ONTBirders:
Nothing much new is happening on the local scene, but of interest today was a male ORANGE-VARIANT HOUSE FINCH at the Fletcher Wildlife Gardens. He was observed by my wife and I at the Backyard Garden behind Bldg. 138. Three DARK-EYED JUNCOS ("slate-coloured" subspecies) were also present, which was a nice change of scenery for me personally as I have not seen may juncos this winter. There were also the usual suspects of chickadees, house sparrows, and a pair of NORTHERN CARDINALS. Early this morning, we visited the Jack Pine Trail at Stony Swamp C.A., and observed a flock of approx. 20+ BOHEMIAN WAXWINGS near the Moodie Drive parking lot. Other than that, however, there was little activity except for the usual chickadees and two RED-BREASTED NUTHATCHES. I heard two separate PINE GROSBEAKS calling from off the trail, but did not actually see either of them. Good birding! Pat DIRECTIONS: The Fletcher Wildlife Garden is located on Prince of Wales Drive across from the Museum of Agriculture. To get to the Jack Pine Trail, from 416N, take the Fallowfield Road exit, turning west onto Fallowfield Road. Turn right at the light onto Moodie Drive. The parking lot for the Jack Pine Trail will be on your right (just past the Lime Kiln Trail parking lot on your left). _________________________________________________________________ So many new options, so little time.
