Birding so far today has been almost a mirror image of yesterday. Not many
new birds have been reported today but few appear to have moved on either.
Nevertheless, the sunny weather is affording great looks at many common
birds. The GRASSHOPPER SPARROW continues to draw attention in front of the
Visitor Centre, posing for both birders and photographers. It has been at
the same spot for at least 3 days now.

In addition to the male PROTHONOTARY WARBLER reported from the south end of
the Woodland Nature Trail (WNT), another, this time a female was reported
from the north end of the trail. Also reported in the vicinity were a
WHITE-EYED VIREO and NORTHERN PARULA.

Reports from the tip area included a CLAY-COLORED SPARROW, 2 YELLOW-HEADED
BLACKBIRDS (male and female observed flying off the tip south), several
INDIGO BUNTINGS and both species of ORIOLES. Offshore were late lingering
BUFFLEHEAD (7), BLACK SCOTER (1), and WHITE-WINGED SCOTER (1).

Tilden’s Woods continues to be the most active area at the south end of the
Park. Again, the same complement of birds appears to be present. This
includes numerous BLACK-THROATED GREEN and BLACK-AND-WHITE WARBLERS. Other
reported included CHESTNUT-SIDED WARBLER, YELLOW-THROATED VIREO, BLUE-HEADED
VIREO, ORANGE-CROWNED WARBLER and HOODED WARBLER (female). The KENTUCY
WARBLER has not been reported yet today, but it seems possible that it too
is still around.

Outside the Park, a local birder reported LEAST BITTERN, COMMON MOORHEN (1)
AND AMERICAN COOT (2) from the bridge along the north side of Hillman Marsh.

Good Birding,

Hike Leaders Pete, Karl, Dave, Justin, Todd and Mary Anne
