Tilden’s Woods continues to attract birds and birders. One possibly two
GOLDEN-WINGED WARBLERS were reported there this morning. Also present were a
number of MAGNOLIA WARBLERS, CAPE MAY WARBLER, several BLUE-HEADED VIREOS
and LEAST FLYCATCHERS, AMERICAN REDSTART, OVENBIRD and BLUE-WINGED WARBLER.
The LOUISIANA WATERTHRUSH was heard singing southwest of the boardwalk
again.

Slightly further north and west of Tilden’s Woods another 4 BLUE-WINGED
WARBLERS were reported, as was another male GOLDEN-WINGED WARBLER at Black
Willow. Also observed at Black Willow was one of our first WILLOW
FLYCATCHERS of the spring. At DeLaurier an EASTERN BLUEBIRD and “YELLOW”
PALM WARBLER were spotted.

Down at the Tip, a WILLET was observed first thing this morning, sitting on
the beach. Also present amongst the other gulls there was a LESSER-BLACK
BACKED GULL (age not noted). Slightly further north, along the West Beach
trail, a CLAY-COLORED SPARROW was seen well. Another (?) was reported in the
vicinity of the Solar Panel display yesterday. At the half way stop (for the
tram) along the west beach, a GRASSHOPPER SPARROW was reported.

We have had few other reports from elsewhere in the Park. For example, there
have been no reports of the PROTHONOTARY WARBLER along Woodland Nature Trail
this morning.

Yesterday afternoon, a WESTERN MEADOWLARK was discovered along the west
beach, just north of the tip train loop. It was frequenting the area near
the Honey Locust tree (“Serengeti Tree”).

Although people did look for the SPOTTED TOWHEE, no one reported it
yesterday.

Good Birding,

Hike Leaders Pete, Karl, Dave, Justin, Todd and Marianne
