Only one distant Parasitic Jaeger was identified but other birds seen were American Golden Plover, Black-bellied Plover, Sanderling and a nice flock of 10 SNOW GEESE. On the beach strip this week a Sora was found which had hit the hydro wires. Northwest winds brought a hawk migration over the lakeshore. Although most were Turkey Vultures other birds seen included Common Loon, Sharp-shinned, Coopers, Broad-winged and Red-tailed Hawk, Merlin and Peregrine Falcon. More migration to come in the coming weeks highlighting Red-shouldered Hawk and Golden Eagle. Yesterday over the Valley Inn three Bald Eagles 2 adults and 1 juvenile flew over. One of the adults had a radio tag on the back. Shorebird migration is tapering off. Out in the Dundas Marsh a HUDSONIAN GODWIT was seen from the Northshore Trails. Other birds seen on the mudflats and surrounding area were Blue-winged Teal, Great Egret, Black-bellied Plover, Greater and Lesser Yellowlegs, Pectoral Sandpiper, Merlin and Rusty Blackbird. Another spot for shorebirds is the pond east of the waterslide at Confederation Park. Here yesterday were Greater and Lesser Yellowlegs, one Stilt Sandpiper and a Spotted Sandpiper. Deer Run Court in the vicinity of Brantford has been a hotspot this week. Sandhill Cranes are heard and seen regularly. Migrants reported this week include Ruby-throated Hummingbird, Eastern Phoebe, Blue-headed and Red-eyed Vireo, Yellow-rumped and Wilson's Warbler. Other highlights this week include Marsh Wren, Swainson's Thrush and Common Yellowthroat behind VanWagners Ponds, Pied-billed Grebe at Windemere Basin, Horned Grebe in Spencer's Creek in Dundas, Rusty Blackbird at the Valley inn and an Eastern Screech Owl calling in South Burlington. My apologies for not getting a report out last week! Hopefully this week will bring some goodies in for the Thanksgiving long weekend.
