24th Kincardine Christmas Bird Count 28th dec 09
Twenty participants struggled through the worst weather day so far this
winter (flurries and blowing snow shut down local highways) The 50 species
found is only a little low but the total of 5764 individuals is only half
of some recent counts.A flock of 100 bohemians seen the day before showed
only one on count day. The single of both song sparrow and white-throated
sparrow is typical . A lone cowbird was found mixed in with a flock of
house sparrows . A redhead duck made only its 3nd appearance . A first for
the count and the highlight for me was a juvenile black-legged kittiwake
that turned up on the stormy shore late in the afternoon.
No luck relocating the kittiwake yesterday 29th

Toronto.
