Hi. Along with quite a few others I had nice (though widely and coldly separated) views of the male Varied Thrush this morning. As reported, the bird is feeding on corn and apparently sheltering at times in a large brush pile just southwest of the feeder area. There were plentiful other birds entertaining us during the Thrush's long absences, including a fine Red-bellied Woodpecker. As Lev Frid says, "Worth the visit."
Cheers, Skip Shand Geoff Simpson's Directions: Cold Creek Conservation Area is located on the 11th Concession, between the 15th and 16th Sideroads. From the South, take HWY #27 North to King Road (Nobleton). Turn left on King Road and drive for 4 km to the 11th Concession (look for the sign for YMCA Cedar Glen Camp) and turn right (North). Cold Creek Conservation Area is about 3.5 km on the right, with a large sign out front. Park on the side of the road into Cold Creek. The first (and only) driveway on the right is to my house. Walk down the driveway, and try to keep back from where it splits (the location of the feeders). _______________________________________________ ONTBIRDS is presented by the Ontario Field Ornithologists - the provincial birding organization.
