Hello birders. The Varied Thrush is still hanging around Geoff Simpson's home just inside Cold Creek Conservation Area northeast of Bolton. We saw him (the thrush, not Geoff!) come out from the fir trees and grab corn off the closest stump feeder, between 1:45 and 2:15 p.m. on Sun. Feb. 14. He also came closer to check us out (we were perfectly still) from the tangled bush area a bit further down the driveway. He remained pretty well covered then jumped out into the open and gave Pat and I the thrill of a lifetime while we snapped madly away with our cameras. There were two Northern Shrikes enroute from Guelph, usually nervously scoping out the area at the very tops of trees. Locations: Regional Road 124 (Eramosa Road in Guelph) around Watson Road and Grange Side Road near Mississauga Road. Also a flock of 17 wild turkeys on a frozen pond at a little farm with some great bird feeders just west of Forks of the Credit on Wellington Rd. 52. Four rough legged hawks put on a fabulous strafing display at a field on Hwy. 10 (King Street) a few kilometres west of Bolton.
