* * *Point Pelee National Park Migration Update for May 12, 2010* A cloudy morning with slight east winds welcomed birders, along with a large movement of migrants. 17 species of warblers were seen in the morning at the tip alone including CANADA WARLBER, TENNESSEE WARBLER, WILSON’S WARBLER, BLACKPOLL WARBLER, ORANGE-CROWNED WARBLER and a MOURNING WARBLER. Other migrants around the tip area included WHITE-EYED VIREO, YELLOW-THROATED VIREO, PHILADELPHIA VIREO, WILLOW FLYCATCHER, and ACADIAN FLYCATCHER. A surprise along the trail to the tip was a LEAST BITTERN. Both BLACK-BILLED and YELLOW-BILLED CUCKOOS were also spotted, along with a PEREGRINE FALCON. >From Tilden Woods, KENTUCKY WARBLER, GOLDEN-WINGED WARBLER, BLACK-BILLED CUCKOO and SUMMER TANAGER were all reported. Outside the Park a SNOWY EGRET was reported roosting at Muddy Creek, while another bird was seen at Hillman Marsh. A LESSER BLACK-BACKED GULL was also seen at Wheatley Harbour. No word this morning of the FORK-TAILED FLYCATCHER at the southeast end of Hillman Marsh near the parking lot at the extreme north end of East Beach Road. The WHITE-FACED IBIS was reported again at Big Creek near Amherstburg.
