Weather: Heavy overcast and mild with light SSE winds and a high of 19C. Raptor Observations: Very few raptors given the south winds and spring-like conditions. Only a few Harriers, Sharp-shins and Cooper's Hawks, and a single Red-tail and Merlin. One of the two local juv. Ospreys put in a few brief appearances around the south end of the marsh. Non-raptor Observations: A fair number of Blackbirds stopped in the trees around the tower and fed at the marsh edge (and singing up a storm) including 85 Red-wings, 16 Rusties, and 81 Grackles. The only other birds moving were 33 Horned Larks, 74 Blue Jays, and 86 Black-capped Chickadees. Notable were Lincoln's and Fox Sparrows, and 2 Purple Finch. Predictions: Cloudy with a near 100% chance of thunderstorms in the afternoon. Winds SSE 20 km/hr then picking up out of the WSW 30 km/hr with gusts to 50. High of 21C. Not many raptors expected with south winds and thunderstorms, although the forecast is looking better for later in the week. ======================================================================== Report submitted by Jim Pawlicki (jmpawl...@aol.com) Holiday Beach Migration Observatory information may be found at: http://hbmo.org/ _______________________________________________ ONTBIRDS is presented by the Ontario Field Ornithologists - the provincial birding organization.
