A morning walk around West Perth Wetlands was quite productive. I saw 6 species of shorebirds - Black-bellied Plover (15), Killdeer (12+), Greater Yellowlegs (15+), Lesser Yellowlegs (10+), Dunlin (25+) and Pectoral Sandpiper(2). Among the rafts of Mallard and Canada Goose were lots of Green-Wing Teal and good numbers of Northern Pintail, Northern Shoveller, American Black Duck, Ruddy Duck, a few Bufflehead and Lesser Scaup, and a Mute Swan. In the weeds and on the mud were American Pipit, Horned Lark, American Tree Sparrow, Song Sparrow, White Crowned Sparrow, and American Goldfinch. Steve Thorpe Stratford West Perth Wetlands is on the south side of Mitchell, which is west of Stratford on Hwy 8. From Ontario Street travel south on Wellington Street to Frank Street. Cross the road and follow the gravel to the parking lot. _______________________________________________ ONTBIRDS is presented by the Ontario Field Ornithologists - the provincial birding organization.
