Hello Birders, I found a vocal male Black-backed Woodpecker foraging in the hemlock stand in the north section of Skyline Trail in Gatineau Park north of Ottawa at 2:45 PM today. It fed for several minutes on dead standing and fallen hemlock.
Good birding! Justin Peter Directions: The Skyline Trail may be accessed from Ottawa by taking Highway 5 N from Ottawa. Get off at Old Chelsea Road and turn west (left). Pass through the town and turn left on Kingsmere Road at the big raised intersection. Continue to the right at the next stop sign and pass over the Gatineau Parkway.
