Weather: Overcast and cold with light NE winds 4-6 km/hr and a high of 4C. Raptor Observations: A small flight of Red-tails that started early and peaked between 11 and 1 before quickly tapering off around 2. Five Harriers, 4 Red-shouldereds, 3 Cooper's, and 2 Sharp-shins also put in appearances. A lone low-flying Turkey Vulture was noted making its way west over the marsh (and therefore counted), although it may be the same bird seen over the last few days (time should tell). The day's highlight was 4 Golden Eagles lumbering west (a...@10:59; suba...@12:35,12:59; j...@12:14) with all passing through high and/or very distant out over the north treeline. Non-raptor Observations: A few small flocks of Tundra Swans were on the move, along with a flock of 7 "Lesser" Snow Geese that flew over heading SW during the noon hour. It was also nice to finally see a few Common Loons (3) fishing out on the lake in company of several Goldeneyes and Buffleheads. Also notable was a/the late Blue-winged Teal that seems to be lingering around the marsh, although it was looking like it wanted to be somewhere warmer in the morning. Predictions: Scattered rain showers with SE winds 30 km/hr becoming light late in the morning. High of 13C. Looking like a late season wash-out--not many raptors expected. ======================================================================== Report submitted by Jim Pawlicki (jmpawl...@aol.com) Holiday Beach Migration Observatory information may be found at: http://hbmo.org/ _______________________________________________ ONTBIRDS is presented by the Ontario Field Ornithologists - the provincial birding organization.
