Greetings Ontbirders Today Don Shanahan, Maureen Riggs and I ventured out to Gull Island. At Owen Pt we were greeted by a flock of 25 Common Redpolls. We were able to find 2 of the Harlequin Ducks posted earlier by Doug McCrae at the west end of the island. Back on the mainland at High Bluff campground I looked over the edge of campsite 61 and there were 3 Purple Sandpipers on the exposed limestone ledge below. A mixed flock of American Robins, Cedar Waxwings and at least 5 Bohemians can be found between the government dock and 83 Bayshore Rd. These birds appear to be eating the berries of Red Cedar. The Fox Sparrow is still coming to 83 Bayshore Rd mostly at dusk and dawn.
Bill Gilmour To reach Presqu'ile Provincial Park, follow the signs from Brighton. Locations within the Park are shown on a map at the back of a tabloid that is available at the Park gate. Access to the offshore islands is restricted at this time of year to prevent disturbance to the colonial nesting birds there. Birders are encouraged to record their observations on the bird sightings board provided near the campground office by The Friends of Presqu'ile Park and to fill out a rare bird report for species not listed there _______________________________________________ ONTBIRDS is presented by the Ontario Field Ornithologists - the provincial birding organization.
