Freeze up is coming slowly to the Kingston area so waterfowl numbers remain
quite good. There were Tundra Swans in Hay Bay, Elevator Bay, at Bath and on
Amherst Island. Wood Ducks were seen at Dupont and in the Napanee River.
Feeders are attracting large numbers of Am. Goldfinches and many are seeing
singleton Red-breasted Nuthatches. A Camden East feeder continues to have up to
50 Pine Siskins; there are smaller numbers at other locations, and Common
Redpolls are scattered and as yet, still not very abundant. The Varied Thrush
continues to frequent the feeder near Moscow and a Tufted Titmouse was seen at
a feeder near Morton on Wednesday.
Snow Buntings are widespread but only in relatively small flocks. A N. Shrike
was seen near Hay Bay yesterday and Bohemian Waxwings at Moscow and the Queen's
Biological Station. Bald Eagles were reported from Lake Opinicon and Frontenac
P.P.
Lingering birds include 40 Am. Robins near Hay Bay, 2 Killdeer and a
Golden-crowned Kinglet at Bath and a Common Loon off Amherstview.
The Prince Edward County Christmas Bird Count is tomorrow and Kingston's is on
Sunday. Let's hope the weather and the birds cooperate.
Cheers,
Peter Good
