Hello everyone!* *Pete Chapman, Blake Mann and I observed a beautiful *male rose-breasted grosbeak* at Pete's house this morning (Saturday) as we began the *Kettle Point CBC*. The bird showed up at about 8:15 and was still present when we left about 5 minutes later. It has been coming to the sunflower feeders in the back of Pete's house and has been present for some time. I believe Pete said that it seems to be quite shy but we were able to watch it through his back windows. Yesterday, he saw it about 3:30. Apparently it stays for about 10 to 15 minutes and feeds very heavily. Pete believes it comes to the feeder about 3 times a day. We did not observe it there from 12:30 to 1:15 today. There is a LOT of snow in this area - it's just north of the now famous highway 402.
Pete's house is in Hungry Hollow, about 3 km east of Arkona. Arkona is between Strathroy and Forest. To get to the house, go east on Townsend Line out of Arkona (also called County Rd. 12) for about 3 km. Turn left (north) on Sylvan Rd. His house is less than a km ahead on the right, #30544. Good Luck! * * Steve Charbonneau Erie Beach in Chatham-Kent _______________________________________________ ONTBIRDS is presented by the Ontario Field Ornithologists - the provincial birding organization.
