West Humber Naturalists conducted the 30th annual Kleinburg Christmas Bird Count on Sunday December 19th in the Vaughn, Caledon and Brampton area. Conditions were good but there was limited open water, especially in lakes and ponds.
Twenty-seven field observers recorded 57 species and approximately 11,500 individuals - averages are 55 species and 12,500 individuals. No new species were reported leaving the total for the count at 115. Some of the highlights include American Coot, White-crowned Sparrow, Hermit Thrush and Rusty Blackbird and very high numbers of Bohemian Waxwings (150) and Red-tailed Hawks (122). Notable misses included Ruffed Grouse, Swamp Sparrow and Song Sparrow.
