Hi Ontbirders,

The Woodstock Field Naturalists' Club held their 77th annual Christmas Bird 
Count on Saturday December 18th 2010. We ended up with 61 species, slightly 
above the average of 60 species. We had a record number of birds (79,478), 
largely due to our crow count.

Highlights included:
Pine Warbler - a juvenile female seen by Jeff Skevington at Hogsback, the 1st 
for the count. In the cattails and 3 large willows at 43.20166 N, 80.61560W. 
Please ask for permission if you go to look for it. This is private property.
Red-headed Woodpecker - 3rd count - 1 at Lynda McCready's feeder near the east 
end of Pittock Lake.
Red-shouldered Hawk - 6th count - 1 seen in Braemar valley west of Hickson.
Carolina Wren - 6th count - 1 at James Holdsworth's feeder near Woodstock.
Hermit Thrush - 7th count - 1 seen near the east end of Pittock Lake by Jeff 
Skevington.
Mute Swan - 8th count - 1 seen along the Thames River near Beachville, James 
Holdsworth and Bill Lindley.
Hooded Merganser - 10th count - 2- near Beachville, James Holdsworth and Bill 
Lindley.

New high counts include:
Common Goldeneye (8) - ties high from 1991
Bald Eagle (5) - 4 in 2009
Cooper's Hawk (14) - 10 in 2008
Wild Turkey (124) - 98 in 2007
Mourning Dove (762) - ties high from 2000
Belted Kingfisher (11) - 9 in 1991
Red-bellied Woodpecker (22) - ties high from 2008
Downy Woodpecker (110) - 93 in 1989
American Crow (69888) - 41161 in 2008
White-breasted Nuthatch (99) - 74 in 1989
Winter Wren (4) - ties high from 2009
