Good Day

Early yesterday morning Ian Cannell, Margaret Liubavicius and I went up to see
the Varied Thrush at Weimer Road east of Waterloo and just east of Emsville. We
were not there very long when we spotted the bird across the road from #3218.
We had several good looks before we went on our way to the Hagersville area.
Also seen at #3218 Weimer Road were 2 Red-bellied Woodpeckers and a
Sharp-shinned Hawk that apparently gets it meals in the #3218 area.

In the area south and east of Hagersville we found 10 Rough-legged hawks, 12
Red-tailed Hawks, N. Harrier and A. Kestrel as well 11 Short-eared Owls, 1
Great Horned Owl, 51 Wild Turkeys, N. Shrike, 77 Horned Larks that seemed to be
just arriving, 150 Snow Buntings, N. Mockingbird and the usual birds to be
found in winter.

Directions:

Weimer Road
Exit Hwy 401 at Hwy 8 (Exit # 278 ) and drive north to the junction of Hwys 8
and 85.
Stay on Hwy 8 and drive to west to Notre Dame Drive.
Drive north on Notre Dame Drive through Petersburg and St. Agatha to Gerber
Road.
Drive the very short distance west on Gerber Road to Moser Young Road and again
a shore drive north on Moser Young Road to Weimer Road.
Drive east on Weimer Road past Maplewood Road to #3218 (in a valley).

Hagersville Area
Hagersville is south of Hamilton and south of Caledonia along Highway 6.
Highway 6 can be accessed off Highway 403 just west of Hamilton and the Lincoln
Alexander Parkway.
The areas south and east of Hagersville can be birded along the many roads.
There are many wood lots and quite a few feeders in the area and this is the
Fisherville area made famous by the late John Miles with his Christmas counts
and annual February OFO outings.
